Baby’s Month-by-Month Development
A baby’s development is a remarkable journey that progresses rapidly from birth. Although each baby grows at their own pace, certain stages generally show similar characteristics.
1 – 3 Months
- 0–1 month: Recognizes the mother’s scent, sleeps most of the time, and reflexes are prominent.
- 2nd month: Makes eye contact, responds to sounds, and begins to smile.
- 3rd month: Holds the head upright for longer periods and starts discovering hands.
4 – 6 Months
- 4th month: Laughs out loud and reaches for toys.
- 5th month: Can roll from tummy to back and enjoys sound-making toys.
- 6th month: Can sit with support, switches toys between hands, and may show signs of starting solid foods.
7 – 9 Months
- 7th month: Begins crawling or makes preparatory movements.
- 8th month: Responds to their name and rotates objects in their hands.
- 9th month: May stand while holding furniture and starts understanding simple commands.
10 – 12 Months
- 10th month: Crawling becomes faster, may take a few steps, and learns to wave.
- 11th month: Enjoys more complex games and produces two-syllable sounds.
- 12th month: May start walking, says simple words, and imitation skills develop.
Note: Every baby’s development is unique. Reaching these milestones earlier or later is completely normal.
